PersWa is a personal finance application that helps you track your mobile money transactions automatically.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and the protections in place for your data.
1. Information We Access
PersWa requests access to the following on your device:
SMS messages — The app reads SMS messages in your inbox to identify mobile money transaction
confirmations from MTN MoMo, AirtelTigo Money, and Telecel Cash. Only messages that match known mobile money
formats are processed. Personal messages, bank messages, or any other SMS are not read or stored.
Contacts (optional) — If you grant contacts permission, the app matches phone numbers in your
transaction history to the names saved in your phone's address book. Contacts permission can be denied without
affecting core functionality.
Notifications (optional) — Used only to send local budget alert notifications when you approach
or reach your monthly spending limit. No internet connection is used to send these notifications.
Internet access (optional, for signed-in users) — If you create a PersWa account and choose
to use Cloud Backup, the app connects to Firebase (Google) to store a copy of your transaction history. This
is entirely optional. See Section 2 for details.
2. How Your Data Is Stored
All data processed by PersWa is stored primarily on your device in a private local database.
This includes your transaction records, categories, budget settings, and personal preferences.
Cloud Backup (optional): If you sign in to PersWa and use the "Backup Now" feature, your
transaction history is encrypted and stored in Firebase Firestore (operated by Google). This backup exists solely
to help you restore your data if you change phones or perform a factory reset. It is never used for advertising,
analytics, or any other purpose. You can delete your backup at any time by contacting us at
support@perswa.app.
If you do not sign in or do not use Cloud Backup, no data ever leaves your device.
3. Data Sharing
PersWa does not share your data with anyone. Specifically:
No data is sold to third parties.
No data is shared with advertisers or analytics services.
No data is sent to MinQ Software or any other organisation except as described in the Cloud Backup section above.
The app contains no third-party advertising SDKs.
The only other time data leaves your device is when you choose to export your transactions as a CSV
file and share it manually (for example, via WhatsApp or email). This action is entirely voluntary and under your control.
4. Firebase & Authentication
PersWa uses Firebase Authentication (Google) to manage user accounts. When you sign in, Firebase stores your
email address and an anonymised user ID. This is used solely to link your cloud backup to your account.
Firebase's own privacy policy applies to this data: firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
5. Permissions Explained
READ_SMS — Required to read mobile money SMS messages. Without this the app cannot detect transactions.
READ_CONTACTS — Optional. Used only to display saved contact names alongside phone numbers.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS — Optional. Used only to send local budget alert notifications.
INTERNET — Used only if you sign in and enable Cloud Backup. Not used otherwise.
6. Children's Privacy
PersWa is intended for adults and is not directed at children under the age of 13.
We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
If this Privacy Policy changes in a material way, the updated version will be published at this URL and the
"Last updated" date above will be revised. Continued use of the app after any change constitutes acceptance
of the updated policy.
